Treatment process for oxygen removal and corrosion prevention

Minox Technology AS has developed a new water treatment product especially designed to prevent corrosion and scale deposits in industrial water circuits as i.e. cooling water circuits, heating plants, etc.
The process reduce the residual dissolved oxygen in the water providing an extremely effective corrosion prevention of the system components.
Minox Technology AS has delivered similar systems to the offshore industry for years and is now adapting the technology to the industrial markets. The deoxygenation process is one of the offshore products adapted to fully meet the requirements from the onshore industry.
The unique Minox deoxygenating process is based on nitrogen gas stripping and catalytic regeneration of the stripping gas treating circulating water to provide residual oxygen levels less than 10 ppb, without oxygen scavenger and to a low power consumption.
Principle of operation
Water saturated with oxygen passes through a static mixer whole being co-currently contacted with nitrogen stripping gas feed into the mixer at the water inlet.
The oxygen contaminated nitrogen gas and water is being separated in a gas-water separator. The gas is transported through the regeneration system by the duty blower.
A sufficient temperature increase is achieved prior to being purified by an exothermic catalytic reaction with methanol vapour or hydrogen.
- The regenerated pure nitrogen gas is then introduced back into the static mixer.
- The reaction products from the deoxidiser are water vapour and carbon dioxide (only when methanol is used).
Features:
- Efficient oxygen removal to a residual level less than 10 ppb
- No use for chemical corrosion inhibitors
- Operate at a wide range of water pressures and temperatures
- Small, compact and economical units
- Very low operational cost
Application and design
- Single stage co-current design for offline stream operation, "closed circuit system"
- Two stage inline co-current design. Typically for boiler feed-water treatment
Company Profile
Minox Technology AS is a Norwegian company established to serve onshore and offshore oil industries around the world. The company is located at Notodden in Norway.
Minox Technology AS offers the design, engineering and fabrication of water treatment equipment to the oil production and processing industries.
Initially the company will concentrate its endeavours in two main fields, which are:
Deaeration of Water The deaeration technology is primarily used for the reduction of residual oxygen levels in seawater, prior to injection into wells for enhanced oil recovery. The process is based on oxygen stripping using nitrogen, the stripping gas being catalytically regenerated. The system is designed to achieve residual oxygen levels of less than 10 ppb without the use of a chemical scavenger. It can be operated at any normal seawater system temperature and pressure.
The company Hydro Minox AS developed this technology in the period 1984 to 1989 resulting in an installation to Saga Snorre in 1992.
Since 1993 Kværner Process Systems (KPS) has held a license for the fabrication and sales of this equipment and have sold 9 systems up to October 1999. After an exclusive joint venture agreement with KPS for the last two-year, this relationship will be altered into a non-exclusive license agreement. Minox Technology AS will continue the development of this process within the company, and on the marketing side with other partners, in order to further improve its effficiency and competitiveness.
Separation of Oily Water Minox Technology AS offers a technology and equipment for separation of oil from water, more specifically from the produced water from oil production. The principle, based on "flock and float" principles has been thoroughly tested in prototype units onand offshore. The system can reduce the oil content in the treated water to less than 10 ppm on a continuous basis and at the same time achieve a very low water content in the separated oil. This result in an installation in 1998 of a 200 m3/h produced water system to the well testing vessel Crystal Ocean owned by Brøvik Offshore.
Minox Technology AS has an organisation to design, engineer, market and deliver the equipment described both within the company, and together with partners.
