Fachpack 2010 Bosch associate honored by Otto Hänsel Foundation
- Award for outstanding academic achievements in the fields of processing technology and packaging machines
- Degree thesis of Bosch design engineer Sebastian Graf provides important insights into production process quality management
Nuremberg/Stuttgart - Since its creation in 2001 at the Technical University of Dresden, the Otto Hänsel Foundation annually honors outstanding academic achievements in the fields of processing technology and packaging machines. This year, the Foundation's prize was awarded to Sebastian Graf for Best Degree Thesis of the past academic year. At the prizegiving ceremony, the 27-year-old design engineer received a certificate as well as prize money of 1,000 euros from Dr Ralf-Otto Hänsel, son of the founder. The ceremony was attended by several industry representatives as well as Friedbert Klefenz, President of Bosch Packaging Technology and Vice President of the Interpack trade show; Richard Clemens, graduate engineer and Executive Director of the food processing and packaging section of German Engineering Federation VDMA; and Prof Jens-Peter Majschak, holder of a professorship for Processing Machines and Technology at the Technical University of Dresden.
Sebastian Graf graduated in 2009 in Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Dresden. In his degree thesis, entitled "Quality Management in Laminate Production" and supported by ASEM Präzisions-Automaten-GmbH, he examined factors influencing the laminating process of web-shaped low-profile products made of paper, carton or plastic. Graf provides an overview of factors influencing the quality of the production process and details extensive practical experiments which confirm theoretical considerations concerning the impact of web tension parameters. The results have been summarized in a specification sheet for machine, drive and software design and are used by the industry in production quality optimization.
In his address, Friedbert Klefenz expressed his appreciation of the education provided by the university's Department of Processing Machines and Technology as well as its efficiency which had been documented in numerous research papers. Bosch, through its Packaging Technology business unit, and the Department of Processing Machines and Technology of the Technical University of Dresden have been cooperating for a long time in research and education. In 2009 both parties signed a cooperation agreement for the promotion of training and further education. "This cooperation", said Klefenz, "aims at ensuring the required specialist qualification of the next generation of engineers and scientists."
